Balcony Time

You may have noticed our schedule this summer is a little lighter than usual. While Sunday gatherings continue, our weekday activities are on break from July through much of August so that I can have some much-needed balcony time.

Balcony time is a concept I recently encountered from a fellow contemplative community creator. It's the practice of stepping back from the dance floor to observe from the balcony for a wider perspective.

As Contemplate Lincoln enters its 10th year (yes, year 10!), it feels like the right moment to reflect on what has been and what is wanting to emerge. Over the coming weeks, we'll be looking at revamping our website and online presence, planning 10th anniversary gatherings and celebrations, and reimagining our communications, gatherings, and programming. Stay tuned for opportunities to share your feedback and input in this co-creative process.

I'm excited to see what will emerge!

Adam

First Annual Retreat

to
Sunday, August 16, 2026 at 1:00 PM

The Rule of St. Benedict calls us to
“diligently cultivating silence at all times.”

How can we practice stillness in our often-chaotic world and follow the psalmist's call to be still and know God’s loving presence? In this retreat we will learn and deepen practices through which we might enter into stillness in our daily lives like contemplative prayer,
lectio divina, and walking the labyrinth. Co-sponsored by Contemplate Lincoln.

Steven Blum, PhD, is a retired clinical psychologist, retreat leader and Benedictine Oblate.

Adam Luedtke, PhD, is the director and pastor of Contemplate Lincoln. In 2021 he co-founded Contemplative Creators Network, a collective of leaders in the Christian Contemplative Tradition.

Cost:
$181.61 (Single)
$170.76 (Double, per person)
(Includes program fee, guest room, meals and taxes)
If no bedrooms are available, call the retreat center to be put on a waiting list.

**If you are exempt from Nebraska state taxes, would like to arrive earlier or depart later, or opt out of meals, please contact us.

Next Meeting: Saturday, July 25th at 9:00am

Join us for our monthly celebration on the prairie with drumming, short reading reflections, meditation, and a mindfulness walk through the majestic trails of Pioneers Park. Those who don’t wish to walk may sit on the Nature Center deck that faces a beautiful prairie and buffalo. We often close with a drumming circle (no experience required).

We will meet inside the auditorium at the Nature Center. During colder months, we will meet for one hour and have a shorter walking time. In the warmer months, we will meet for 75 minutes and often meet on the back deck, weather permitting.

Bring a chair, a water bottle, and a drum. Some drums will be provided.

Nature Center and Deck are wheelchair accessible.

The Contemplative Cathedral
A Space to Deepen Your Spiritual Life

Join us online for contemplation and community. So many of us on the contemplative path eventually get to the point where we can go no further alone. The Contemplative Cathedral is a response to the inner yearning of many contemplatives for community. It looks a little like other social media platforms, but it is so much more. It's a space to conspire, connect, and contemplate, and our online home for all of our event info (both online & in-person), links, and groups. It also serves as a way to stay connected in between events.
