God Declares
Recently, during our lectio practice, this verse hit me differently than ever before, even though it has long been one of my favorites. On this particular reading, the word “declare” jumped off the page and led me to ponder what it is that God is declaring through the Spirit.
Now, there are particular declarations for each of us in different moments in our lives and to the collective at different times in history. But I was struck by the question, what is the constant? What is God always and forever trying to declare? What was God declaring through Jesus? What filled my spirit was that God is always and forever trying to declare God’s love for us, for creation, and for me.
For whatever reason, that declaration breaks through with varying degrees of success. Even in my own life, there are times when I don’t believe it, let alone embody it. It seems we can be hesitant to accept the message, but a lot gets in the way. If individuals have difficulty accepting it for themselves, we often have even more difficulty accepting it about some other people. Certainly, the other tribe, the person I don’t agree with, or the person living unskillfully, is exempt from this declaration.
Yet, my experience of God and scripture tells me something vastly different. That God loves everyone and everything. May we receive that declaration.
John 16:12-15
New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition
12: I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13: When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14: He will glorify me because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15: All that the Father has is mine. For this reason, I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

The Contemplative Cathedral A Space to Deepen Your Spiritual Life
Join us online for contemplation and community. So many of us on the contemplative path eventually get to the point where we can go no further alone. The Contemplative Cathedral is a response to the inner yearning of many contemplatives for community. It looks a little like other social media platforms, but it is so much more. It's a space to conspire, connect, and contemplate, and our online home for all of our event info (both online & in-person), links, and groups. It also serves as a way to stay connected in between events.
